Mindful Drawing with Anna Black Fri 12 Apr - Sun 14 Apr

  • Arts

Mindful Drawing is an exploration of drawing as meditation and is suitable for all levels. Inspired by the work of Frederick Franck, author of The Zen of Seeing, the emphasis is on process rather than outcome. This fascinating method stimulates us to observe the beauty of everyday life and capture its essence in simple drawings.

There is no specific timetable but we will become steadily more familiar with practising mindfulness; exploring how our attention affects our experience in the context of seeing and drawing. We will also do some more traditional meditation practices.   By the end of the weekend you will feel comfortable with this approach and be able to practice on your own.

Fully inclusive residential single room £285; shared £245 per person; Non-residential option £205- includes suppers, lunches and all refreshments- Excludes B&B single. Course fees include some materials - a list will be provided on booking.

An art teacher writes:

Anna's course was revolutionary for me as an artist and art teacher. Teaching art after an already long career as a fine art practitioner forces one to address tricky questions - what actually goes on in the brain and heart when we draw, paint or create? How can we teach this to those who want to learn? What's the important stuff to teach? Anna's course felt at the same time gentle and quiet and also ground-breaking. The course allows a space of contemplation and inquiry to open up allowing intuition to take centre stage; and the answers find you. All one’s senses and whole body are engaged in the acts of drawing and not drawing. The course wordlessly answered all the questions that I had dragged along in a great big metaphorical bag.
Dan McDermott, artist and teacher
