Come and enjoy specialist coaching from string players of the world-class Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra as you explore popular string orchestra repertoire, build ensemble and musicianship skills, as well as honing chamber skills.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) presents its third annual Strings Residential. In the delightful countryside setting of Hawkwood College, string players from this distinguished orchestra will deliver specialist coaching and build skills with you as you explore popular string orchestra repertoire. After two days of honing your musicianship skills the course will culminate in a concert attended by the public.

A minimum standard of Grade 6 ABRSM or equivalent is required. Players are welcome to familiarise themselves with the repertoire in advance, but preparation is not required.

Arrival 12 noon, Wednesday 12 August; course begins with lunch at 1.00pm. The course ends with afternoon tea at 4.00pm on Friday 16 August, after a play-through concert at 2.30pm.

Practical Information

A minimum standard of Grade 6 ABRSM or equivalent is required. Music will be provided via PDF in advance, and hard copies of repertoire will be provided at the start of the course. Please bring your own music stand. You are also welcome to bring your own repertoire to play informally at times throughout the course.

Please note that prices are listed per person.

Residential options are fully inclusive with all meals provided. Non-residential options include suppers, lunches and all refreshments and exclude B&B.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra

This course is led by members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, which has been a cultural beacon, both nationally and internationally, since its foundation and marked its 125th Anniversary in 2018. Under the baton of Chief Conductor Kirill Karabits, the orchestra performs over 150 concerts a year, including at the BBC Proms.
