The Swelling Seed

Facilitator: Jennifer Horsfall & Mark Graham

Using experiential practices, ritual, and myth Mark and Jennifer will show how the principles of deep ecology can be aligned with our personal journey of growth and self-discovery.

Understanding human consciousness as a component of the ecological process, we will seek to inspire a creative response to the energy of the seasonal cycle.  Participants will have an opportunity to explore the connection between nature, human nature, and the quest for authenticity and meaning in their lives.

Event time: Sun 28th Jan 2024 at 10:00am - Sun 28th Jan 2024 at 4:30pm

At a glance

  • The principles of Deep Ecology and Eco-Psychology – nature, human nature and the interconnectedness of life.
  • Personal and collective myths and the role of human consciousness in the ecological process.

Participants will gain

  • Explore the potential of ritual as a creative tool for personal and collective growth.
  • Deepen their connection and sense of belonging to the web of life.

When we transcend the myth of separation and embrace our role within the ecological system, we enrich our human experience and contribute to a more sustainable future.

In this series of workshops, aligned with the four Celtic fire festivals, we will explore the symbiotic processes operating within the local environment.  We will consider the living and non-living components of the ecosystem and the flow of energy within and between them. We will acknowledge the cyclic nature of life and the phase of growth represented by each festival.  Using a range of practices, including solo time in nature, we will seek to connect with the energy of the season.  Exploring how the seasonal cycle reflects our own journey and enables us to move forwards inspired and replenished.

In this first workshop, we will align ourselves with the energy of Imbolc – the time of the swelling seed.  We will seek to bring into awareness the emerging themes that are germinating deep within the fertile soils of our unconscious.  Using the power of co-created ritual we will strengthen and affirm our commitment to personal growth and planetary wellbeing.

Participants can attend one or more of the four workshops, each is self-contained and reflects the unique qualities of the season.

“I have always found the ‘Deep Ecology’ days at Hawkwood deeply nourishing. The combination of education around the ecology; opportunity to deepen my sense of connection with the earth; rituals; use of story and practices provide opportunities to deepen connection and understanding of myself which helps me to find my ground and place.
Jennifer and Mark hold the space with gentleness and grace which honours the sacredness of the work. I highly recommend these courses.”
