Facilitator: Elisabeth Parry

Do you love playing the flute? Would you like to improve your flute skills in an encouraging and supportive environment? Elisabeth’s focus is on helping you to make real progress in your flute-playing journey. This course is the perfect chance to improve your technique, and perform your solos in a warm and supportive environment led by Elisabeth Parry and accompanied by John Alley.

Event time: Fri 23rd Oct 2020 at 10:00am - Sun 25th Oct 2020 at 4:00pm

The course will comprise warm-ups working on key aspects of technique, followed by rehearsal of two ensemble pieces. You will also have the opportunity to work on a solo piece with individual coaching and accompaniment, as well as to play in a masterclass. The course will finish with a live performance as we play for each other and celebrate making music together again.

At a glance

  • Learn good warm-up practice
  • Receive coaching on a solo piece
  • Play in a flute ensemble

What participants will gain

  • Develop technique
  • Gain confidence in performing with an accompanist
  • Enjoy making music together

This intensive weekend residential will give participants the opportunity both to make music with others and to develop their own work.

Each day, we will explore one of the four key aspects of technique – sonority, finger dexterity, articulation, and interval flexibility – in our daily warm-ups. This group class will be followed by an ensemble session where (in socially distanced manner, appropriate to flute playing) we will rehearse two flute choir pieces with an emphasis on intonation and listening skills. John Alley will offer individual accompaniment coaching to every participant on a solo piece. This is followed by an opportunity to this play solo and receive detailed feedback from Elisabeth. The course will conclude with a concert where we will all perform for each and celebrate being able to make music together again.

Some prior preparation is possible during our September online course, but this is not a prerequisite for attending. All appropriate social distancing measures specific to flute playing will be in place according to current guidelines.
