A road to Mastery in the use of Sacred Sound as a transformational tool and in the service to Humanity. Each day we will be working with different sacred instruments; to learn how to use them in performance and healing for others as well as ourselves.

Event time: Fri 29th Jul 2022 at 6:30pm - Sun 7th Aug 2022 at 4:00pm

The ten-day full Gong Master Training comprises both theory and practice sessions. There will be optional pre-breakfast additional Yoga sessions for those who wish to continue their early morning Yoga practice.

Techniques

The emphasis will be on all areas of Gong Mastership depending on the needs of the students. Topics will include:

Gongs

Gong playing techniques including the different strokes and the use of all types of mallets

Rotogong

New Rotogong techniques, using singing bowls, conch shells

Other Instruments

Practice with other instruments, both ancient and modern, whether man-made or sourced from Nature

We will be teaching how to play the many different types of Gongs available. These include Singing Bowl, Shruti Box, Conch Shell, Feathers, Gong Therapy Practice, Giving the Gong Bath, Organisation and Performance of an all-night Gong Puja. The Gong will be used as a transformational tool for Personal and Group Healing Meditations, Gong Yoga exercises, Philosophy and Gong Consciousness. All teaching materials are included.

GMT Chakra Dancing & Creative Expression Workshop: During GMT you will have the opportunity to enjoy a fun and creative healing workshop. Students are invited to explore each of the Chakras through Music and Movement. This freeform, joyful and spontaneous movement practice is led by Elizabeth to an eclectic mix of global music influences composed especially for each Chakra including shamanic drumming, funky soul. Latin jazz, native Indian chants, rattles, percussion, ambient nature sounds and Tibetan bowls. It is recommended to wear loose clothing and trainers or bare feet to energise the body and free the Spirit!

This workshop has proved very popular with GMT students to enhance creative expression, self-empowerment and confidence in group gong playing sessions.

Accommodation

Please contact info@hawkwoodcollege.co.uk if you would like to share with a partner or would be interested in a non-residential place if we are able to increase numbers.

What to Bring

We invite you to bring a gong or two if you have them, in addition to any other instruments you like to use. Other items to bring include a yoga mat, a cover and a pillow if you are able, a blindfold and a book and pen to take notes.

Please mark or tag your precious instruments, mallets etc. so that you can easily identify them. Coloured PVC tape works well (but not red or blue tape as Aidan and Kevin use those colours). Paiste Gongs have a unique serial number on the back between the gut holes which should be noted by you for safekeeping.

There is adequate free time to process information and to have one’s own ‘me’ time. In unstructured time, you can experience the variety of amazing gongs and other instruments available. Students have time to interact with each other, forge friendships and share their particular skills. The course is intensive but not intense. We recognise that it is the quality, not quantity of the training that is most important. Having adequate time to understand and to relax and integrate new information and skills is crucial.

Practical Information

This year all course literature is included in the price.

An extra-large marquee provides us with additional teaching space and communal activities. We have Hawkwood entirely to ourselves - no other courses will be running whilst we are there. We also have access to the grounds and can use this beautiful outdoor space for conch practice, other classes and relaxing in when the weather permits.

Equipment: Each student will be allocated their own mallet station with a variety of mallets that need not be shared with others. Conches will be cleansed in an antiseptic water tank.

Sanitiser: there will be sanitisers at the entrance to each teaching room.

We invite you to bring a gong or two if you have them, in addition to any other instruments you like to use. Other items to bring include a yoga mat, a cover and a pillow if you are able, a blindfold and a book and pen to take notes.

Aidan Mcintyre

Aidan Mcintyre met the gong in 1993 and it was a transformational experience, to say the least. From that moment on he has dedicated his life to sharing his experience and research with the World at large. The Singing Bowls came into his life at that same time and they became an integral addition to his work with the Gong.

Aidan is a generous teacher sharing his acquired wisdom. He also likes sharing his large collection of Gongs, Antique Singing Bowls and Conch shells, sharing their origins and uses in Sound Therapy. Don Conreaux and Aidan together created the Gong Master Training Course which came to fruition in the UK and is now in its twenty-second year in 2018. They have taken this training around the world to Europe, Asia and both North and South America and Australia. The UK GMT is a rare opportunity to receive the training from both Don and Aidan teaching together. When not on the road teaching, Aidan has a practice teaching individual students personally or via Skype and offers one-to-one gong therapy from his home in Gloucestershire.

Aidan is also the creator of the ‘Rotogong’ which is an attachment to the gong stand which enables one to rotate any gong 360 degrees whilst playing. ‘’I believe that this creation will change the way the Gong is presented by the gong playing community and that it completely revolutionises the whole Gong bath experience both sonically and emotionally’’
