Through a dynamic and intensive session, participants will learn how to harness the power of humour to optimise decision-making, improve clarity, and trigger lateral thinking. Discover how humour can be utilised beyond mere entertainment as a tool for lateral thinking and creativity. Led by Sarah Tucker, an authorized biographer of Professor Edward de Bono and a Cambridge postgraduate researching the value of introducing thinking classes into schools.

This workshop aims to equip attendees with a comprehensive toolkit of ideas and practices to effectively manage challenges in both their personal and professional lives. The workshop will demonstrate how humour can be used as a constructive tool to approach difficult situations and turn them into enjoyable opportunities.
Incorporating elements of yoga, visualization, meditation, breathing exercises, and storytelling, the workshop will provide a holistic learning experience. In the morning, the workshop will focus on identifying the different components of humour and lateral thinking, including how to trigger humour, the power of words, and the use of metaphors and poetry. Attendees will also be introduced to various tools such as the Playful provocateur, the power of six, metaphorically speaking, and the advertising campaign.
In the afternoon, the focus will shift to subverting the narrative and breaking out of boxed thinking, as well as the importance of reverence to words, intelligence, and history. Attendees will be introduced to additional tools such as excellent but not enough, anything is possible, I am Right You are Wrong, the gaslighting value medals, and the fake news game. The workshop will conclude with the literary trampoline and the argument rap.
Overall, this workshop aims to empower attendees to manage specific situations, from crises in confidence to personality clashes and bullies in the workplace and at home. The workshop offers a unique approach to personal and professional development by integrating humour, lateral thinking, and mindfulness practices. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have gained valuable insights and practical tools that can be applied to their everyday lives to improve clarity, mental and physical well-being, and decision-making.
Arrivals from 9:15am, the course starts at 9:30am and finishes with tea and cake at 4pm.
Bring loose-fitting clothes for the yoga part of the workshop and yoga mats if you have your own otherwise yoga mats will be provided. If you do not wish to take part in yoga, this part is not obligatory but please advise us prior to the workshop.

Sarah Tucker is an accomplished professional with a diverse range of skills and experience. She is a best-selling novelist, multi-award-winning radio and television broadcaster, journalist, and qualified yoga instructor. Currently undertaking postgraduate study at Cambridge University, Sarah is researching the use of lateral thinking to trigger humour and wellbeing.
Sarah specializes in teaching teenagers yoga and meditation techniques for anger management and anxiety. She is also the author of Love Laterally, the authorized biography of Professor Edward de Bono, which was published in May and has become a Times best-selling non-fiction title.
Sarah has traveled extensively as a travel broadcaster for the Discovery Channel, BBC Holiday Programme, Classic FM, and Jazz FM. She currently presents and produces a weekly radio show in Dorset.
