A gentle introduction into the joy of comedy & theatre improvisation
Facilitator: Jon Trevor
This will be a gentle introduction into the joy of comedy and theatre improvisation. A low-pressure, high-enjoyment workshop in a fun, friendly, supportive and stress-free environment. You will learn to work together with others to spontaneously create group stories, scenes & sketches.
The course is aimed at beginners. You don’t need any drama, acting, comedy or improv experience whatsoever. You don’t have to be clever, fast or funny either!
Event time: Fri 17th Jun 2022 at 4:00pm - Sun 19th Jun 2022 at 4:00pm
- An introduction to the techniques of collaborative spontaneity
- A fun- and laughter-filled learning environment
- A great confidence booster
What You Will Gain
- Renewed access into your own unlimited creativity
- A channel for your innate playful nature
- Discovery of the freedom and challenge of improvisation
The fun thing about improv is that it is learned through play. Starting with simple group games, you will discover the actions, attitudes and mindsets that encourage good teamwork and collaboration. You will then be introduced to the basic tools of collaborative creativity through focus, support and gentle mutual negotiation. Gradually you will be introduced to further improvisation skills such as Spontaneity, Listening, YesAnd, Character, Status, Story. Eventually, you will feel confident to begin to create entire improvised scenes and have fun with improvisation.
Improv is not the same as stand-up; you’re not alone on stage and it’s not about telling jokes or being really quick and witty. It’s about working together as a team with other improvisers to spontaneously create engaging material in the moment.

“Jon came in and ran a course of workshops for our teaching staff. He is a truly excellent course leader - every session was thoughtfully prepared, clearly structured and scaffolded staff so that they felt comfortable, had a great time but also were able to develop skills. He quickly established an environment in which a diverse group of people worked really well. Highly recommended.”
