Facilitator: Mike Bais
In this course the metaphysics of Kabbalah will meet the wisdom of mythology. They will cross-fertilize each other as we work towards synthesis between this deep knowledge of the collective unconscious and that of the Tree of Life and Jacobs Ladder. The course will be dynamic as we integrate theory and practice and tap into the richness of the many mythological traditions that the worlds knows. It will be a personal journey into ourselves as the myth and Kabbalah are eventually about our inner life.

Myth is as old as the human psyche, speaking its own language ever since. Kabbalah is an ancient tradition that has the metaphysical teachings to explain mythological concepts and make them real in our personal world of experience. Myth, like dreams have always been a mystery for most of mankind. It talks through metaphor, symbol, analogy and the heart. To participate in the myth is to participate in the language and that mysterious world of dreams and the imagination. Like it was said: ‘myth is something that never happened and is always happening’.
Join us in this dynamic course, where we will work with old texts, poetry, meditations and some practice, to express the myth in and through our own being. Like Joseph Campbell said: the myth has four functions which are a social & pedagogical, psychological & moral, metaphysical and mystical function. The Kabbalah in this course will explain what these mean for us personally. Joseph Campbell, the concept of the hero’s journey, Jungian analysis, alchemy, the Tree of Life and Jacobs Ladder of the Kabbalah will guide us in these days at Hawkwood College. If you wish to live your myth or grow closer to the myth you are already in-tuned with, this course might be something for you.
Some experience of Kabbalah is useful but not necessary to participate. No special items needed. Bring pen and paper for your own notes.
