Mike Bais - Kabbalah & the Way of Myth
Mon 30Aug
Tue 31Aug

Facilitator: Mike Bais

In this residential workshop, the metaphysics of Kabbalah will meet the wisdom of mythology. They will cross fertilise each other as we work towards synthesis between this deep knowledge of the collective unconscious, and that of the Tree of Life and Jacobs Ladder. A dynamic course integrating theory and practice. Tap into the richness of the many mythological traditions that the world knows.

It will be a personal journey into ourselves as the myth and Kabbalah are eventually about our inner life. We will have a thorough look at the current state of affairs in the world, concerning Covid-19 and other topics that affect our lives, all from a Kabbalistic-mythological perspective!

What is myth?

Myth is as old as the human psyche, speaking its own language since the dawn of time. Kabbalah is an ancient tradition that uses metaphysical teachings to explain mythological concepts and make them real in our personal world of experience. Myths, like dreams have always been a mystery for most of mankind. They speak through metaphor, symbol, analogy and the heart. To participate in myth is to participate in the mysterious world of dreams and the imagination. It has been said: ‘myth is something that never happened and is always happening’.

Kabbalah & the Way of Myth

Join us in this dynamic course, where we will work with old texts, poetry, meditations and some practice, to explore and express myth in and through our own being. As Joseph Campbell said, myth has four functions. These are social & pedagogical; psychological & moral; metaphysical; and mystical aspects. The Kabbalah in this course will explain what these mean for us personally. Joseph Campbell, the concept of the hero’s journey, Jungian analysis, alchemy, the Tree of Life and Jacobs Ladder of the Kabbalah will guide us through our days at Hawkwood. If you wish to live your myth or grow closer to the myth to which you are already attuned, this course might be something for you.
