Arts Education: A Midwinter Drawing Retreat

Facilitator: Morag Donnelly

Lifelines is a sacred, sensitive art practice that weaves together movement and drawing, providing a space for opening our senses and becoming more present with ourselves, our materials and each other. This drawing retreat is a pause offered at the still point of the turning year as the burgeoning light beckons and darkness hums within. Together we will move into this quiet, into our senses and into the unknown, to explore the richness and vitality of what it means to be drawn by life.

Event time: Thu 17th Dec 2020 at 4:00pm - Sun 20th Dec 2020 at 5:00pm

At a glance

  • Awaken your innate creative wisdom through movement and drawing from life

Participants will gain

  • Develop a fluent and rich drawing language
  • Cultivate a capacity to move freely between felt presence, sensing, and gesture
  • Leave feeling nourished and resourced with a deepened sense of belonging and connection

In this body centered approach to life drawing, developed from assisting and collaborating with Meriel Gold and the teachings of Cecil Collins, we hone our innate responsive creativity, expanding our freedom of expression and reconnecting with beauty. With both hands moving in clay, charcoal and ink, we will discover how to relinquish control upon the quiet meeting ground of the page. Grounded in presence and gentle compassion the intimacy we experience in drawing from life is an invitation to open and enliven our senses.

To create art in any form with freedom and non-judgement is inherently health giving. It offers a  way of bringing us into the present moment and restoring our feelings of belonging. In this unique workshop, live and recorded music helps us lift and move as we draw from what arises. Through these inky, messy, hearts and hands we arrive at transient pauses, moments of connection and reflection. Meeting the paper in these fleeting moments, we explore a dance of gesture and poetry through the models’ pose. Paper, water and feathers will become our intimate allies and we will cultivate a relationship with them that honours the life of these precious gathered resources.

From complete beginner to experienced artist, all are welcome to join, you will receive individual guidance and support. There will be time to unfold and restore, cosy fires to warm us and nourishing food and company’
