Arts Education: Drawing From Life

Facilitator: Morag Donnelly

Lifelines is a sacred, sensitive art practice that weaves together movement and drawing. It provides a space for opening our senses and becoming more present with ourselves, our materials and each other. In the depths of winter, together we will connect with our senses and explore the richness and vitality of what it means to be drawn by life.

Event time: Thu 15th Dec 2022 at 4:00pm - Sun 18th Dec 2022 at 5:00pm

Participants Will Gain

  • Develop a fluent and rich drawing language
  • Cultivate capacity to move freely between felt presence, sensing, and gesture
  • Leave feeling nourished and resourced with a deepened sense of belonging and connection

Hone your innate creativity

In this body-centred approach to life drawing, we hone our innate creativity, responding to beauty and expanding our freedom of expression. This unique approach was handed down to Morag by pioneering artist Meriel Gold and is inspired by the teachings of Cecil Collins.

Art anchored in presence & gentle compassion

With both hands moving in clay, charcoal, natural pigments and ink, we will discover how to relinquish control upon the quiet meeting ground of the page. Anchored in the presence and gentle compassion, the intimacy we experience in drawing from life is an invitation to open and enliven our senses.

Your sense of belonging

To create art in any form with freedom and non-judgement is inherently health-giving. It offers a  way of bringing us into the present moment and restoring our sense of belonging. In this unique workshop, live and recorded music lifts our spirits, encouraging us to move as we draw from what arises. Through these inky, messy, hearts and hands we arrive at transient pauses, moments of connection and reflection. Meeting the paper in these fleeting moments, we explore a dance of gesture and poetry through the models’ pose. Paper, water and feathers will become our intimate allies and we will cultivate a relationship with them that honours the life of these precious gathered resources.
