Sun 30Aug

Facilitator: Cathy Mills

Monoprinting is a direct and inspiring approach to printmaking which will be done without a press. It requires rollers, printing ink, plates and paper. There will be time outdoors for drawing shapes in nature and gathering leaves to use as content for the prints. Cathy will share techniques to create playfully with this wonderful process.

Event time: Sun 30th Aug 2020 at 9:30am - Sun 30th Aug 2020 at 5:00pm

At a glance

  • An introduction to the wonderful world of monoprinting.
  • Create a series of prints.
  • Have fun and share ideas.

What will participants gain?

  • A skill they can take away with them to pay with at home.
  • A chance to express ideas and feelings through making prints.
  • Taking time out to connect with creativity.
The day will begin with Cathy introducing the basic process of monoprinting through demonstration
and by showing artists’ monoprints including her own. This allows students to see how versatile and
expressive monoprinting can be.
Following on from this, Cathy will encourage participants to make some very simple monoprints in a playful and experimental way to get the feel of the process.
We will spend some time outdoors in the beautiful grounds of Hawkwood to draw shapes in nature and gather inspiration and material from the woodlands and surrounding beauty.
After a lunch break, using inspiration and materials gathered earlier, students will start bringing these ideas, shapes and forms into the prints, guided by Cathys expertise. The day will be fun and experimental,  providing a basic understanding of the monoprinting process that participants can take away with them.
