Event time: Fri 29th Mar at 4:00pm - Sun 31st Mar at 4:00pm
At a glance
- Ageing consciously by facing our fears and healing wounds
- Forgiving ourselves and others
- Facing our mortality with dignity and grace
Participants will gain
- A deeper understanding of spiritual eldering/conscious ageing
- Discover your individual path through later life
- Find peace of mind by recognising the gifts of ageing along with ways to hold the challenges in compassion
We will be together for a weekend in circle engaging in individual and group exercise and sharing in order to harvest the wisdom of our life experiences. Journaling, contemplative time, and sharing will give us space to open our hearts to the gifts of ageing. We will explore our images of ageing (both internal and external); discover ageing as a spiritual, though not religious, path; practice forgiveness of ourselves and those who might have created pain; begin/continue the work of facing our mortality; and creating a legacy for those we cherish and for the planet.
The tools we use are not specific to any religious discipline, but enhance spiritual maturity for people who embrace any faith or humanistic practice or none. These materials were developed by Rabbi Schachter-Shalomi as he faced his own physical decline, drawing upon decades of leadership in spiritual communities and friendship with many great spiritual leaders, such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Ram Dass.
This engaging weekend will benefit older adults who wish to design the next stage of life, and the lives they touch, by ageing consciously. Professionals and carers who work with elders, clergy, spiritual directors, social workers and hospice workers will also find the weekend beneficial to their daily work.
Our time together will support each of us to inquire into our truth as we open to the reality of our transformational ageing, whatever that might be in any moment. We embrace the past in order to acknowledge our gifts and we also see our future as we see transience as the engine of our meaning.
We highly recommend participants read “From Age-ing to Sage-ing” by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi before attending the workshop.
