Claudi’s story

Claudi Williams and her family transformed their home after a year of cutting out plastic, including all plastic packaging. This dramatic lifestyle change, which they still maintain five years on, meant learning about easy ways to shop unpackaged and plastic free, cleaning the home without products in plastic bottles, making simple toiletries at home, and learning recipes for making food staples such as oat milk. Their home became more natural as they stopped buying needlessly packaged products that inevitably contained preservatives and chemicals. They also switched to cooking more simple meals with seasonal and locally sourced food. As a consequence, the family’s weekly amount of rubbish and recycling shrank dramatically.

Claudi will pass on some of the methods for making simple toiletries and cleaning products that can help you avoid packaging and make your skincare and cleaning methods more natural:

  • Make your own lip balm, deodorant powder and body oil
  • Make your own all-purpose cream cleaner and an antibacterial spray
  • Watch a demo of how to make toothpaste at home
  • Watch a demo of how to make oat milk

In addition to free handouts for doing a plastic audit of your home and great tips for simple swaps to more natural products in the home, there will also be a chance to buy Claudi’s book ‘Small Steps to Less Waste’ with more recipes and inspiring stories from the Stroud community.
