Rest and re-energise

Celebrate the abundance of the life force with the practice of yoga to open your heart to courage, nature-inspired meditation walks to open your mind to greater insight, and to surrender to your need to rest deeply. This is a time to be inspired by the natural abundance we are surrounded by, the ‘maha prana’, the great life force, and set intentions for the months ahead feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

Itinerary

This retreat takes place at the pagan festival of Beltane, the festival of light, fertility and expectation. We will incorporate some of the themes of Beltane with the practice of yoga, meaning union, as we “unite” with our bodies, minds, breath and hearts through gentle and re-energising hatha-inspired yoga, and deeply restful restorative yoga and yoga nidra. Yoga will allow us to find steadiness and ease, to release tension, and to then connect more mindfully with the presence of nature and land.

You will receive the hugely beneficial practice of yoga nidra each day, proven to decrease feelings of anxiety and depression, support chronic pain and insomnia, and resolve trauma. There will be gentle Flow and Restore yoga to open up your body in the mornings and afternoon Restorative practices to release long-held patterns of tension and create more space for breath. These practices will help “reset” your nervous system, boost immunity, and balance hormonal levels (including stress hormones).

There will be optional early morning meditation walks, as well as a meditation walk around Hawkwood’s special labyrinth. On Saturday evenings we are very fortunate to have a special Sound Gong Bath with Monika Kralj of Rainbow Vibrations.

You will be able to set your intentions for the months ahead feeling relaxed, open and grateful for all the light, abundance and creativity both within and without of your being.

Suitability

This retreat is suitable for all, even those brand new to yoga.

Hawkwood

Hawkwood is a stunning Grade II listed 19th Century country house, surrounded by 42 acres of sustainably managed woodland, farmland, and gardens. Set in the heart of the Cotswolds – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – it is a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. With a diverse selection of nearly 150 courses, there’s plenty to choose from, including courses in transformative leadership, future thinking, inner life, music and the arts. Our programme of courses is led by experienced tutors and leaders in their fields.

Practical Information

Arrival and registration (with tea and cake) is from 4.00pm on Friday and there will be a Welcome talk at 5.00pm. The retreat ends after lunch on Sunday.
Please bring yoga equipment including a mat, a small pillow or cushion for your head, at least one blanket (there will be beautiful unique Tibetan shawls for sale), a yoga bolster and yoga blocks and bricks if you have them. Mel will be able to provide anything you don’t have. Also bring a notebook or journal, a pen and warm, comfy clothes that you can move freely in, including warm socks. You may also like to bring walking boots and extra layers for the early morning walk.

Mel Skinner

Mel has been teaching yoga since 2014, and works with groups and individuals, online and face-to-face, to support those looking to develop their spiritual life, as healing from trauma, excess stress, menstrual and womb health, fatigue, sleep problems, and general body aches and pains. She is also a writer, astrologer and reflexologist.
