An Eco Series: Session 1

Facilitators: Chloe Turner, Stroud District Action on Plastic

As a Centre for Future Thinking with an awareness of wellbeing, we felt it was only right that we put together a programme to inspire sustainable living in the home this winter.

Amongst immense pressure, change, uncertainty and chaos, we know that to give you the whole planet to think about is quite a thing. From our very own experience, we see small practical action to be what initiates big change.

This is session 1 of a 4-part series: Sustainable living: an eco-series.

*Delivered via Zoom & live-streamed to social media.

Session 1 of Sustainable Living: An eco-series

November 19th, 4:30-5:30 pm

Plastic once seemed like a wonder material – cheap, colourful and endlessly adaptable – but we’re only too aware now of its polluting downsides and the huge climate impact of the industry.  Our planet can’t support this for much longer, and we have to take action.

In this very practical session, we’ll be talking through strategies to reduce the plastic coming into our homes, based on reuse, refill, rethink – even the possibility of making our own products in some cases. We’ll start by discussing how and where to start the journey, and then we’ll tackle different areas of the home in turn, talking about how plastic can be avoided, and specific solutions for particular challenges.

Taking up these suggestions should result in a big reduction in your household waste (and recycling bin), but we’ll also talk about the other benefits you can expect to gain from this exercise: shifting away from the throwaway lifestyle can bring you closer to your local community and your environment. You may learn new skills, and many people find that their lives become simpler, easier, and more mindful, by focussing on what we actually need and enjoy, rather than what is forced upon us.

This event is being live-streamed to our Facebook page and YouTube channel and is therefore given to you as a gift. If you would like to support Hawkwood’s arts and educational charity as a gesture of appreciation, please click here.
