Whether you are a complete beginner or want to improve your painting skills, this class will help you become more confident in the art of watercolour painting.
You will be encouraged to be open to new ways of working with this versatile medium. Julia will show you how to avoid the ‘wishy-washy’ watercolours and embrace bold colour, strong composition and the incorporation of story into your work. She will demonstrate some of her unique techniques and work with you individually to ensure you have understood the concept.
Julia teaches with humour and enthusiasm, helping each student tap into their own unique style. She believes that it is important to have fun while experimenting with art, but allowing mistakes to happen will foster learning and growth. You will come away from the course with a toolbox of skills from which you can further develop your watercolour painting and a clearer idea of what is so wonderful about the medium!

Julia is a self-taught artist. She grew up in England but spent her formative years in Botswana, Africa where she painted the flora, fauna and people of the Okavango Swamps. Julia moved to the U.S in 1992 after marrying Dr. John Bulger, an animal biologist she had met in the Swamps. Since living in the United States, Julia has had the opportunity to illustrate 10 books for children with various publishers.
She continues to paint and illustrate in her studio just outside Santa Fe New Mexico. For many years Julia has been teaching workshops in her studio, privately and at the local community college. Each year she leads a program in Italy on painting and walking in Tuscany. She is currently working on her 11th book for children.Visit Tutor's Website
