A practical art retreat

Facilitator: Gizella K Warburton

During this three day art retreat, we will be considering the line, through observation, mark making and interpretation. Using these start points we will explore linear and spatial relationships and different ways of introducing ‘content’ and detail with fibres and yarns.

With supportive mentoring and shared inspiration, the sessions are designed to encourage participants to notice detail, challenge usual approaches and be aware of their creative responses. In this way, they will develop the confidence to take risks with their ideas and nurture their own creative voice.

Event time: Fri 25th Sep 2020 at 9:30am - Sun 27th Sep 2020 at 4:00pm

At a glance

  •     This tactile and engaging workshop will give you time to look outwards, and inwards
  •     Develop your observational skills and personal language of mark
  •     Experiment with fibres and cloths to create ‘woven’ interpretations

What will participants gain

  •         Supportive mentoring and shared inspiration
  •         The opportunity to explore and develop different approaches to drawing
  •         The confidence to experiment with materials and create start points for future making

This course is suitable for those new to drawing or making, or for experienced artists wanting to revisit or refresh their practice. For example, in observing the line through drawn marks, we will experiment with different interpretive techniques to find our own linear language. Subsequently, this will be extended through material play; manipulating yarns, threads, cloth and paper into woven samples. As a result, we will become aware of the detail and nuance in surface, line and space. Then we will see where this leads us.
