A practical fibre arts retreat

Facilitator: Gizella K Warburton

Develop the confidence to take risks with your ideas and nurture your own creative voice.

This course is suitable for those new to drawing or making, or for experienced artists wanting to revisit or refresh their practice. In observing the line through drawn marks, we will experiment with different interpretive techniques to find our own linear language. We will explore our artistic process through material play; manipulating yarns, threads, cloth and paper into woven samples.

This is an opportunity to explore and experiment to expand your practice through artistic curiosity. With openness in approach and slow exploration, we respond to the artwork as it arises, looking at the line, texture and naturally born creativity.

At a glance

  • Develop your observational skills and personal language of mark
  • Experiment with fibres and cloths to create ‘woven’ interpretations
  • This tactile and engaging workshop will give you time to look outwards, and inwards

What will participants gain

  • Supportive mentoring and shared inspiration
  • The opportunity to explore and develop different approaches to drawing
  • The confidence to experiment with materials and create start points for future making

During this three-day art retreat, we will be considering the line, through observation, mark-making and interpretation. Using these start points we will explore linear and spatial relationships and different ways of introducing ‘content’ and detail with fibres and yarns.

With supportive mentoring and shared inspiration, the sessions are designed to encourage participants to notice detail, challenge usual approaches and be aware of their creative responses.
