Relax Your Way Into 2020 With Deeply Restful Yoga

Facilitator: Mel Skinner

Unwind from the chaos of the holiday season and start the new year feeling deeply rested. Rather than pushing ourselves into postures, this retreat will encourage you to let go of tension and worries. With twice daily yoga sessions designed to gently stretch and open the body, as well as calm and steady the mind, this is a retreat that will reduce stress and tension, and leave you feeling more relaxed and at ease.

Event time: Fri 3rd Jan 2020 at 3:00pm - Sun 5th Jan 2020 at 2:00pm

At a glance

  • Practice a soft, gentle and nourishing type of yoga to rest aching muscles and weary bones
  • Explore meditation through complete relaxation, known as yoga nidra
  • Connect with the beautiful surroundings through silent morning meditation walks
and the gift of free time and space

What will participants gain

  • Calm the nervous system and reduce stress
  • Balance energy and quiet the mind
  • Start the year in a more reflective mindset

Friday evening we’ll start with a gentle stretch before a nourishing dinner. The next morning, we’ll begin with a short walk in silence to the woodland sanctuary, then practice a short meditation, before returning to the hall for breakfast. After this, we will open up the body with gentle stretches made suitable for all abilities. Following the morning tea break, we will enjoy a yoga nidra meditation, resulting in a deeply restful state of effortless meditation.

After enjoying lunch, you will have free time in which you can read, rest, walk or catch up on sleep. In the later afternoon, we will practice restorative yoga with yoga nidra. This type of yoga uses equipment to remove the need for muscular effort, therefore focusing on releasing tension in areas such as the hamstrings, lower back, psoas muscle and diaphragm. The ability to breathe freely and fully, above all, is essential to maintaining a healthy and balanced sense of wellbeing, and as a result, can help us cope with what life has to throw at us.

After this restorative practice, it will be time for dinner and evening free time. Sunday will take a similar format, concluding with a yoga nidra practice before lunch. After this, it will be time to depart, hopefully feeling more rested and rejuvenated as we head into 2020.

This retreat is suitable for all, even those brand new to yoga.
