In her teens, Ruth White had chronic back problems and "happened to fall at the feet of a master". At that time B.K.S. Iyengar held classes in London homes, sometimes with as few as 12 students. He showed Ruth how to work free of the pain, and thus inspired she followed him to India and trained to become a teacher.
She began teaching and assessing Iyengar teachers, and ran the Surrey Iyengar Centre (London) for nearly 20 years. Her current centre is based in the Cotswolds (UK) which offers a 500-hour teacher training school, yoga residentials over the UK, Europe, Australia, Mexico and India, as well as weekly classes in the area.
Ruth is a dedicated student of philosophy and meditation, practising Advaita under the late Shankaracharya Saraswati for 12 years at the School of Economic Science in London. More recently she took vows in the Ishaya order, and after seven years was given the name Parasakti Ishaya by Maharishi Krishnananda Ishaya.

She teaches with enthusiasm and a sense of fun and brings the same warmth and clarity to her talks and demonstrations. “I really benefited from the retreat at and am still loving and trying to live by what I learnt”
“Ruth’s retreat gives you space and time to relax, breathe and practice yoga with kindred spirits. Set in a beautiful setting couldn’t have been more idyllic – as the weather was kind, I was able to take walks to enjoy the lovely countryside, fauna and flora. Ruth’s teaching was (and always is) an inspiration to all that meet her.”
“Having been ill for a long time I began to find my breath again and rekindle my love of yoga which has had a huge effect on my whole wellbeing”
