A day of exploring colour and printed design

A day exploring colour and textures, printing with natural leaves and grasses. You will learn the process of sublimation printing using the heat press to create beautiful and unique botanical designs. An opportunity to appreciate the beauty in autumnal foliage.

Participants Will Gain

A day experimenting with the heat press and exploring its possibilities in textile design. After a demonstration of the process of sublimation printing you will prepare your own dye papers using disperse dyes, the painted papers are used to add colour and design to the plant material and other materials used for printing.

The morning will be spent preparing the materials for printing using the heat press and there will be demonstrations of the different uses of textures, colour and different materials, with lots of sample prints to inspire you!

After lunch, you will be printing onto a selection of fabrics using your leaves, grasses and dye papers to create some amazing designs.

Everyone is welcome, no previous experience is needed!

Hawkwood

Practical Information

Participants wear clothes they don't mind getting ink on or bring an apron or overalls.

Arrival and registration from 9.15am. The course begins at 9.30 am and ends with afternoon tea at 4.00 pm.

The price includes materials, delicious two-course lunch, and refreshments.

Clare Walsh

Clare is a designer and maker based in the Cotswolds. Inspired by the seasons, the local countryside and gardens she creates hand printed designs on linen using screen printing, block printing and thermofax printing. She also loves developing textile designs using the heat press to create unique fabric to line garments and accessories.
With a background in education she enjoys teaching workshops and courses in printed textiles and her work can be found in galleries, shops and art centres in the area as well as through her website.
